To expand financial knowledge of students of International College (IC), offer them the opportunity to experience real working environment and promote their enthusiasm for study, IC joined hands with Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) to arrange an exclusive young elite summer camp for them. The camp was opened in SCB Binbei Branch on June 18. Over 30 students from Finance, Accounting and other majors participated in the two-day camp.

As a value-added service provided by SCB to its priority clients, this camp includes training sessions on basic knowledge of finance and business as well as experience sharing on overseas study. Many strong performers in the banking sector were invited to boost the level of the camp.

Kelly, leader of business development team from SCB Jiahe Sub-branch made a presentation about SCB and basic financial knowledge. Special souvenir of SCB was given out to students who could answer the questions Kelly raised, which heated the atmosphere effectively. Ding Zhaojun, President of SCB Guangzhou Binjiangdong Sub-branch, and former President of SCB Xiahe Sub-branch was invited to deliver a lecture about bonds, stocks, foreign exchanges and other specialized knowledge. However, Mr. Ding was being creative that he divided the students into three groups to compete in an investment game. Wisdom, tactics and abilities of analysis and judgement were being tested and related knowledge was imparted through such interesting activity. Zhang Bingqi, manager of SCB Xiamen channel business development shared occupation selection and interview skills with the campers.

High-end business social activities such as golf, coffee tasting, and social dancing were also offered to promote a comprehensive development.

Experienced golf instructor introduced the history, development and basic knowledge of golf before instructing students on golf skills. Under the guidance of the instructor, students practiced golf and kept improving their skills in a following competition. On coffee tasting session, they got to taste freshly brewed coffee of various variety and even got a chance to brew themselves a cup of coffee. Merengue and salsa were taughton social dancing class. The students overcome shyness and started moving their bodies, embracing the joy, excitement and relaxation brought about by dancing.

A simulated SCB management trainee recruitment was held during the camp. Campers had 20 minutes (including 5 mins’ presentation) to study three research topics. After an impassioned discussion and presentation, Zhang Bingqi made comments with his original perspectives, bringing a perfect end to the activity.

Two days’ study and social activities have imparted the campers with new perspectives and knowledge. Many claimed that the camp helped them to gain a clear vision of what they want to do in the future.
