November 23, Chairman of Winchester School of Art Visual Arts Department of the University of Southampton, Tim Metcalf, visited our college for directing our college art students.

On the morning, Mr. Metcalf arrived in Zhangzhou Campus of Xiamen University, lectured to our arts project students and teachers, introducing the geography, history, campus life, ranking, curriculum and learning mode of Winchester School of Art of the University of Southampton, and the presence of the students were all attracted to this illustrated lecture and showed great interest.

At noon, Mr. Metcalf had group discussions with students in the tutoring period, during which he gave guidance and advice for students to express their ideas and thoughts, and how to deal with the difficulties encountered in these situations, and the group discussions lasted nearly four hours.

Subsequently, the teachers of art projects had conversation with Mr. Metcalf, discussing the different requirements at home and abroad. For group discussion just ended, Mr. Metcalf represented a high rating. He said the students were very hard-working, demonstrating artistic accomplishment and potential admirable. Meanwhile, Mr. Metcalf reported the situation of our students currently studying at the Winchester School of Art Students of University of Southampton, who all represented a high degree of recognition by the school.

Finally, the topic on how to develop students' creative thinking and independent learning are discussed. Mr. Metcalf said that the college valued highly towards students' creative thinking and independent learning, and both sides will strengthen exchanges and ensure a smooth docking on the students' academic and related capacity-building.
