From the beginning of this term, the students in Zhangzhou Campus can use any bicycles parking in public places inside the campus for free.

In the afternoon of 15th, Zhangzhou Campus held the launch ceremony of the public bicycles. 600 “new” bicycles recycled from waste bicycles became the first batch of the public bicycles for free used by the students inside the campus. These bicycles were all painted in green with serial numbers printed on the body. If the bicycle was damage during using, the students shall deliver it to assigned maintenance point. 

Zheng Jianhua, the deputy director of the Student Affair Office and the director of Student Office in Zhangzhou Campus, introduced that, when the students move back to the headquarters each year, there are always plenty of bicycles left in Zhangzhou campus. To improve the use ration of bicycles resources, and to carry out the concept of “Green University, Low Carbon Life”, Zhangzhou campus decided to initiate “Waste Recycling”. Since March of this year, the unclaimed bicycles were gathered and organized. During the summer vacation, Zhangzhou campus firstly embarked the public claim for 1000 unclaimed bicycles. For those bicycles which were confirmed “ownerless”. were sent for reparation and those can’t be repaired were eliminated. Finally 600 usable bicycles were sorted out.

They are provided to the students for free on the condition of students’ adherence of “3 Never & 1 Rule” when using these bicycles, which are “Never out of school, Never into the park, Never locking, Parking by rule”. Wang Qiaoping, the assistant principal, the secretary of the Party Committee in Zhangzhou campus and the director of the Management Committee, said, while providing convenience to the students, the school also regarded this as an opportunity of civilization and morality education to the students so as to cultivate the loving heart and to educate the care for public property. 

She also said that, Zhangzhou campus planned to increase the public bicycles numbers to 5000 over the next few years and “students would not need to buy bicycles basically then”.
