On the morning of May 29, 2021, International College Young Teachers’ Teaching Competition kicked off at Kun Luan building on Xiang’an campus. Professor Tao Tao, Dean of International College, Ms Huang Guanhua, Deputy Dean of International College and other leaders attended the competition. Professor Zhu Shuiyong, Director of  the Teaching Steering Committee of Center for Teaching and Learning Development, Professor Xin Zhiying, Deputy Dean of College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Professor Fang Huanhai, from Chinese International Education College / Overseas Education College, Professor Zhong Wei, from The Wang Yanan Institute of Studies in Economics, Professor Chen Duanduan, deputy director of International College Teaching Committee served as judges,  and many teachers attended the competition.

Before the competition, professor Tao delivered a speech on stage. On behalf of the leading group of the International College, he congratulated on the organization of the teaching competition, welcomed the judges and teachers who attended, and expressed gratitude to the trade union and administrative staff who organized the competition. Subsequently, professor Tao put forward some requirements to the participating teachers：Firstly, stay true to your original aspiration, love teaching. As a teacher, we should carry responsibility on our shoulder, prepare for each lesson carefully, actively listen to and collect the feedback from students and strive to improve the teaching level. Secondly, to fully realize the importance of teaching. International college is a teaching-oriented college, so the teaching quality is the lifeline of the college’s development. Thirdly, Teachers should learn from each other. This competition is not only a race, but also a platform to communicate. It is hoped that teachers can make the best of such an opportunity to learn and communicate from each other to improve the teaching level. Fourthly, Keep pace with the times, innovate teaching forms and expand teaching contents, such as exploring online teaching mode and introducing ideological and political courses. At last, he encouraged teachers to take the opportunity to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of general secretary Xi Jinping's congratulatory letter to 100th anniversary of Xiamen University, to transform the upgrading of teaching level into a driving force and source for promoting the development of high-quality education in International College, and to pay tribute to 100th anniversary of the founding party and 100th anniversary of XMU.

The competition is divided into young teachers group, English (Japanese) teaching group and other major categories. According to the school competition standard, through 20-minutes classroom segment teaching and combined with the design of teaching plan, each contestant is evaluated from the aspects of teaching content, teaching organization, teaching language and teaching mode, teaching characteristics, and a total of 34 teachers participated in the competition.

In the competition, the teachers combined their own courses and themes, adopted methods such as theoretical explanation, case analysis and other methods, integrated their professional research and practice with the teaching content, and carried out wonderful teaching. Finally, the judges of each group made concentrated comments and fully affirmed the teaching level of our teachers and their careful preparation before the competition. They hoped that the teachers would emphasize the key and difficult points of the course content, enhance the interaction and communication with students, improve the teaching confidence, and enhance the design and standardization of slice and writing.

After fierce competition and serious discussion by the judges, finally seven teachers including Chen Jingjing and Sun Shengxuan were promoted to the final. The competition further strengthened the basic teaching skills of teachers in our college. It not only showed the teaching style of young teachers in our college, but also provided a platform for teachers to show their talents, promote each other and improve together. To a certain extent, it promoted the improvement of teachers' teaching ability, and laid a solid foundation for our college to do a good job in the construction of teachers' team and comprehensively improve the quality of personnel training.
