On the afternoon of June 3, 2021, the Closing Ceremony of International College was successfully held at the auditorium of Dewang Library.  Professor Tao Tao, Dean of International College, Mr He Yuanzan, Party Secretary of International College, Ms Huang Guanhua, Deputy Dean of International College, Professor Chen Duanduan, Associate Professor Yang Shuai, Ms Lin Yingting and other teacher representatives, all the students who completed the study in 2021 attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Ms Huang Guanghua.

Before the ceremony, all the teachers and students watched a commemorative video and recalled the college life together. Pictures by pictures evoked the good memory, and teachers’ blessings before leaving filled the room with a warm atmosphere.

The graduation ceremony began with the majestic national anthem. Professor Tao Tao, Dean of International College, on behalf of the college delivered a speech, he sent the warmest congratulations and best wishes to the students who successfully completed the 2021 class, and expressed high respect and heartfelt thanks to all the faculty, staff, and parents of the students. He briefly reviewed the history of Xiamen University’s 100-year development, and pointed out that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, Xiamen University has achieved rapid development. Not only has it achieved the goal of becoming a strong school in the South, it is also making strides to become a world-class university. The students finished their study in 2021 have the honor to witness not only the centenary of Xiamen University, but also the upcoming centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. So, this year’s ceremony has extraordinary significance. He put forward three expectations for the students: Firstly, I hope all the students will always be enterprising, adhering to the school motto of “Pursue Excellence, Strive for Perfection”, and regard learning as a quality of pursuing excellence and be a good learner. Secondly, I hope that all the students will always maintain a broad vision and inclusive attitude. In the future life of studying abroad, learn multi-culture with open mind, maintain full culture confidence, and show a good national image. Thirdly, I hope that all the students will always be kind and grateful, to help those in need and to inherit the great love spirit of Xiamen University, “knowing without center, loving without bound”

Afterwards, Ms Lin Yingting and Ms Wu Hong, as teacher representatives, delivered speech in turn to express warm congratulations to the students who have successfully completed their studies. Ms Lin Yingting made affectionate remarks that wish all the students be patient with time, take action in the moment, enjoy all-in efforts, and time will tell. Seize the day, live happily and go uninhibited, wish all of us have a life full of bloom. Ms Wu Hong, also an alumnus of Xiamen University, cited the lyrics from the school anthem of XMU and hoped that all the students grow right in the time of the centenary XMU, pass on XMU’s spirit. And wish all the students, advance with the country, go with times, have lofty aspirations, and have a better future!”

Hong Yuxin, from 2019 Sino-Japanese program, and Gao Zichun, from the British 3+2 Master Program, as student representatives spoke in turn. They reviewed the life in International College, expressed their heartfelt appreciation and respect to the college leaders and teachers. Hong Xinyu, who loves Japanese culture from childhood, under the guidance and help of teachers of the Japanese Teaching Group, she has not only passed the entrance examination of Japanese colleges and universities, but also won the scholarship of Shizuoka Sangyo University. Gao Zhichun, who is about to continue his undergraduate studies at the University of Essex in the United Kingdom, said that the college’s high-quality faculty and a teaching model that combines Chinese and English not only make students better adapt to the language environment of foreign classrooms, but also exercise their English skills. He benefited a lot from teachers’ careful guidance and the sound advice when choosing a school. In International College, he learned not only theoretical knowledge and study skills, but also a rigorous academic attitude and the principles of life.

Accompanied by the passionate music, college leaders and teacher representatives presented students certificates, shook hands and took pictures together one by one.  The ceremony wrapped up in the solemn school anthem. The students took photos with their teachers and friends to record this beautiful and unforgettable moment.

The phoenix flowers bloom and fall, year after year. We wish the 2021 students will always carry the spirit of XMUer’s self-improvement and the broad vision of International College, and create a more brilliant life with the passion of youth, persistent belief and excellent skills.
